On Monday, we will have a test on the Consitution and will begin our new unit, "The New Nation."

Below is a list of questions that will be on the test. Use your notes and the internet to find the answers. Write them on looseleaf so that you can study!

1. What year was the Constitution ratified? 1791
2. Name three people who helped write the Constitution. Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Samuel Adams
3. What is the first part of the Constitution called? The Preamble
4. Explain what the first part of the Constitution says. It explains why the Americans need their own country and their goals for their new government.
5. What is the second part of the Constitution called? The Bill of Rights
6. Name 3 of the rights in the Bill of Rights. The Right to bear arms, the Right to free speech, the Right to a fair trial.
7. Which right do you think is most important? Explain why!
8. What are the three branches of government? Legislative, Executive, Judicial
9. Explain what each branch of the government does.
Legislative: Divided into two parts, the House and the Senate, this branch creates new laws and sends them to the president to be signed.

Executive: Includes the President, who has to sign laws before they are official.

Judicial: Includes the Supreme Court, which decides if laws are fair. They can reverse a law and declare it illegal.
10. If Mr. Vargas gets a good idea for a new law, which branch of government will help him? Legislative.
11. If Miss. Birge disagrees with a law, which branch of government will help her? Judicial.
12. If Mr. Ramirez wants to be president, which branch of government will he be in? Executive.
